SACRAMENTO, CA and QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA - ECO2 Forests Inc. (US Stock Symbol:ECOF) Founder Martin Tindall was today encouraged by news from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) that the global deforestation has slowed, though he stressed much work is still to be done.

"We are excited and genuinely happy having learnt today, through the FAO, that deforestation has decreased over the last decade compared to the 1900s, though with 13 million hectares (32 million acres)* converted or lost each year we still have a long way to go," ECO2 Forests Founder, Martin Tindall said today.

The FAO's study, covering 233 countries, noted, "Brazil and Indonesia, which had the highest loss of forests in the 1990s, have significantly reduced their deforestation rates." Forests cover 31% of the world's total land area and the net loss of forests (when the sum of all gains in forest area is smaller than all losses) between 2000-2010 was 5.2 million hectares, down from 8.3 million the previous decade.

New forests planted accounted for more than 7 million hectares or approximately 17.3 million acres per year.

"The net loss of forests this last decade is the equivalent in size to the entire country of Costa Rica and to continue to slow and stop deforestation we need to develop sustainably managed forests to meet demand for lumber while preserve our existing old forests," Martin Tindall said.

"ECO2 Forests' Global Forestry Plan is doing precisely this through our planned global network of forests. We are encouraged that the world is really beginning to make inroads into protecting these wonderful natural resources."

ECO2 Forests recently announced current forestation project plan targets in the United States now exceed 100,000 acres. Internationally, Brazil and Indonesia represent two of the countries where ECO2 Forests is currently reviewing significant sized projects.

"It is our hope that through programs such as our Global Forestry Plan we can continue to cut back deforestation and use sustainable management practices to meet the global demand for lumber, instead of logging old growth forests and rainforests that are hundreds of years old," Tindall said.
