Developed from tissue culture the Kiri seedlings are disease free and rendered sterile, meaning the tree will not be invasive to the surrounding area or the acreage where the forest is grown. The use of such seedlings potentially increases lumber yields, carbon sequestration and reduces maintenance costs in the Company's Global Forestry Plan.
"I use a process to reproduce the trees which assures that they are sterile and non-invasive when brought into a new area. It actually starts in a laboratory with tissue cultures in a Petri dish that allow me to make an exact duplicate of the mother stock. It is a specialized process," Paulownia Tree Company Owner Zoe'Anna Thies said.
"The Kiri, which is the Japanese word for Paulownia, is not an invasive species and the seedlings my company produce are ideal for ECO2 Forests' Global Forestry Plan. I am excited to be involved as it has been a goal of mine to use these fantastic trees in forestation programs and now I have this opportunity."
Thies' invaluable knowledge and industry expertise proved a significant factor in ECO2 Forests signing with Paulownia Tree Company.
"ECO2 Forests' is delighted to secure the services of Paulownia Tree Company and Zoe'Anna. Her expertise and quality of her product are unmatched and these are the type of people and companies we like to be involved with. We believe the US Sustainable Forest Program will be the first of many projects where Zoe'Anna will be our supplier," ECO2 Forests CEO Collie Christensen said.
Nursery preparations remain on track to commence in May at Smoke Creek, Nevada where the first of seven 2,000 acre projects will be forested. After seven years the Kiri Tree reaches maturity and operates in a sustainable cycle that operates for up to 50 years. This is forecast to produce in excess of $220 million of revenue per year for the Washoe County US Sustainable Forest Program.
