Announced on Tuesday 6 April, in Reno Nevada, the first of seven planned projects forming its projected 14,000 acre US Sustainable Forest Program was enthusiastically covered by local and national media as well as Reno Mayor Bob Cashell.

“Imagine 21 square miles of trees...it is becoming a reality with a rare type of tree,” reported KTNV-NBC.

KRNV-NBC News reported the projects as “building carbon credits and stopping deforestation” and “that 280 jobs will be created,” while KOLO-ABC noted it as “a first of its kind” and “the first project of this size in our nation’s history.”

The New York Times was one of over 100 outlets to run the Scott Sonner’s Associated Press article which reported “ECO2 Forests Inc. announced plans Tuesday to plant up to 3 million trees over the next seven years at irrigated tree farms in northern Nevada's high desert covering a total of up to 21 square miles north of Reno, an area about the size of the island of Bermuda.” Sonner also reported ECO2 Forests’ forecast annual revenue of “$225 million at the Nevada site.” The Program is projected to run for up to 50 years.
