ECO2 Forests E⁴ Philosophy

ECO2 Forests meets its triple bottom line responsibilities through its E⁴ Philosophy. This philosophy underpins all ECO2 Forests projects and provides fundamental criteria that are intrinsic to the realization of an ECO2 project.

Environmental

Environmental responsibilities are paramount for ECO2 Forests. All Global Forestry Plan projects undertaken must create a positive environmental impact above any outcome that may occur without the project proceeding.

Two significant environmental positives are derived from ECO2 projects. The primary environmental benefit is carbon sequestration from each Kiri Tree planted in a forest. A mature Kiri Tree will sequester up to two and a half tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) from the atmosphere in every seven year harvest cycle.

The second environmental benefit is a reduction in the need to log old growth forests by producing a sustainable supply of Kiri lumber for markets around the world. By creating a network of forests globally, ECO2 Forests is able to deliver a regular and sustainable supply of lumber to any market in the world sourced from the most suitable forest location. Thereby preserving natural forests.

ECO2 Forests company vehicles are diesel powered for the increased efficiency offered and the ability to be powered by bio-fuels currently being researched by the company in the future. This will even further minimize the environmental impact of our vehicles. 

All ECO2 Forests offices adopt a minimum paper and print use policy, opting for electronic communication (email, skype, intranet) whenever possible and recycling of paper and waste has also been implemented.

Economic

Economic responsibility is essential for any listed company. Thorough economic analysis is conducted prior to any ECO2 project proceeding beyond the evaluation stage. As well as addressing environmental responsibilities, ECO2 Forests aims for all Global Forestry Plan projects to deliver shareholder value and a positive economic impact to the local community and region where it is located.

Employment

ECO2 Forests Inc. make all efforts to recruit staff from local communities where the project is located. Global Forestry Plan projects are often developed in remote regions where local communities often experience high unemployment.

The positive effect for employees, their families and the wider community is felt for decades through education and job training, the additional cash injection and increased quality of life provided by the employment within the project. Global Forestry Plan projects will be in operation for well over 50 years in most cases.

Education

Education for ECO2 Forests takes on many forms. In all projects, staff are trained and educated in the latest green technologies to ensure we remain at the forefront of reforestation and carbon sequestration techniques. This education provides staff, many of whom are located in remote areas of developing countries with skills that can be passed on to family and friends who, in turn, can use to help reduce their emissions at a local level and establish a sustainable industry for their region.

The education at this level adopts the philosophy - If you catch a fish you can feed someone for a day, if you teach them to fish, you feed them for a lifetime."

Adopting this method of education demonstrates how an long-term environmentally sustainable solution can be achieved in the wider community, not just at the project site.

ECO2 Forests also has a research and development facility in Australia. This R&D facility has educational facilities for visitors and students to further their knowledge and skills in reforestation and other green technologies. The combination of our R&D and educational facilities and ongoing staff training ensures ECO2 Forests not only maintain their world class levels of standards but also to further educate the wider community in measures that will help to reduce their individual carbon footprints.
