US Sustainable Forest Program - Smoke Creek
ECO2 is establishing a Program of reforestation projects in the Washoe County, Nevada USA. Each project will contain 2000 acres of forested land and the Smoke Creek Project will be the first project delivered. As such it is the first phase of a 14,000 acre program of 7 such projects forming the US Sustainable Forest Program.
The establishment of a nursery is now underway in the vicinity of the Smoke Creek Project to provide nursery stock for the entire program. The project lease includes water rights to ensure sufficient irrigation for the entire project. A unique drip system ensures minimal water is used for irrigation of the projects.
Due to the specific regenerative nature of the trees being planted and their ability to regrow from the stump after harvest (see attached Company Brief for more information) the project should endure for approximately 50 years and could then be extended again by replanting.
The project will provide direct employment to approximately 40 workers and over 280 for the entire program while ECO2 Forests' local purchasing policies will indirectly provide a significant revenue injection into the local community.
